BLACKPINK Are On A Mission On New Song “GO”

The latest BLACKPINK EP DEADLINE may only span five songs, but the group packs an incredible amount of energy into every single track. “GO,” currently topping the Genius Top Songs chart, cycles through at least four different musical styles within its 3:15 duration. Blending pop, EDM, hip-hop, and light rock, this sonic variety perfectly reflects the lyrical theme: how BLACKPINK intends to command your movement however they desire.
Cirkut—who previously collaborated on “APT.” by BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ and Bruno Mars—produced this track alongside writers Danny Chung, the four members of BLACKPINK, and noted K-pop enthusiast and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The song opens with a pop feel, as ROSÉ and LISA (indicated in italics) declare—or perhaps warn—that they are taking charge to provide exactly what you need.
I’m on a mission, I’m in control
I want your body, I want your soul
Here to the rescue, I’m number one
Your guardian angel, your kingdom come
As the chorus hits, the track shifts into a high-octane EDM anthem featuring boisterous vocals.
Go
BLACKPINK’ll make ya
Go
BLACKPINK’ll make ya
The second verse pivots into rap territory. Here, LISA and JENNIE (in italics) deliver some fierce bars.
Go get it, I'ma go get it
Never gonna settle for second, I need a gold medal
Get up on the floor, tell me when to go, no slow jams
Bumpin' through the speakers when I do my go-go dance
Oh, no, I go when I wanna go, I’m so gone
Go reckless, go off, like, “What could go wrong?”
I’m goin' all in, you should know that’s my go-to
My whole crew with me, if I go, then they go too
Ultimately, the bridge transforms “GO” into a strumming pop-rock composition, with JENNIE leading the transition.
When your heart is broken, baby
Darkness on the edge of town (BLACKPINK’ll make ya)
Try to keep it open, baby
Try to let your walls come down (BLACKPINK’ll make ya)
Visually, the “GO” music video functions much like a stylized science-fiction fantasy.
