Charlie Puth has plenty to smile about lately. He recently performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl; he is gearing up for a massive tour and the March 27 release of his fourth studio record, Whatever’s Clever; and he is married to Brooke Sansone, a lovely woman who is currently expecting their first child. This domestic bliss serves as the inspiration for his latest track, “Home,” which is the fourth single to drop from his upcoming project.

“I wrote ‘Home’ for my wife, who is my best friend and the mother-to-be of our first child,” Puth shared in a recent statement. “Brooke has truly transformed my life for the better, providing me with a fresh perspective on my purpose and where I truly belong.”

Puth collaborated on “Home” with hitmaker BloodPop® and the iconic Japanese American pop star 宇多田ヒカル (Hikaru Utada), who lends her vocals to the record. “Having Hikaru Utada featured on this track is such a wonderful gift,” Puth remarked. “She adds a level of depth and elegance that I’m incredibly thankful for. She’s brilliant! I truly hope you all find as much joy in listening to it as I did creating it.” (Utada publicly identified as nonbinary in 2022 and uses she/they pronouns.)

Co-produced by Puth and BloodPop®, “Home” is a mellow, mid-tempo pop composition designed to evoke a sense of warmth and comfort. In the opening verse, Puth sings about the loneliness he feels while separated from his wife.

Throughout the chorus, he explores the subtle distinction between a simple house and a true home.

Utada delivers the second verse, where—based on English translations—she expresses that while enjoying solitude is valuable, life is significantly better when shared with a partner.
