Renowned vocalist, composer, bassist, and all-around funk maestro Thundercat shared a deep friendship with the late rapper Mac Miller. Prior to Miller’s sudden passing in 2018, the two collaborated on standout tracks such as Mac’s “In the Morning” (2013) and Thundercat’s own “Hi” (2017). Currently, Thundercat has returned with the vibrant and groovy single “She Knows Too Much,” the latest preview from his upcoming project Distracted, which features newly unveiled verses from Miller.

“I feel so fortunate to have shared my time on this earth alongside Mac,” Thundercat remarked in a press statement. “What an incredible artist, what a beautiful soul, and what a privilege to have known him.”

Crafted by Thundercat, Miller, and Taylor Graves, and helmed by acclaimed producer Greg Kurstin, “She Knows Too Much” depicts Mac pursuing a woman who seems to be beyond his reach.

She (Ooh, we), way outta my league, can’t buy her love
(Baby, can’t buy her love, ooh, we)
All the books she read, she know way too much
(She knows way too much)
Girl, don’t know me, don’t know enough
(Baby) (She don’t know me)

Nevertheless, throughout his solo verse, Mac points out that this woman is far from perfect, specifically noting her financial struggles.

Um, yeah
Ya got trouble payin' rent now
Live in an apartment, I can take you to the penthouse (Cha-ching)
Got a step child, gone like a exile
Make me say, “Woo,” every time you pull your breasts out

To be clear, Mac isn't outright calling her a gold digger…

I know you say it’s true love
But why you always hit me when the check bounce?
Ooh, yeah, we in love
Tell me what I gotta do to get my dick sucked
She a pin-up, lookin' for a rich one
Need to take your ass on home
Pick ya kid up (Pick your goddamn kid up)

Later in the track, Miller calls her out for her pursuit of wealth, though he eventually softens his stance and adopts a more sympathetic tone.

You can talk about the universe and energy
But all you really want is a celebrity (You motherfuckin' bitch) (Bitch)
(Man, that was a little harsh, you’re just lost, and I’m here to find you)

The release of “She Knows Too Much” is accompanied by a colorful animated visual, helmed by director Léa Esmaili.
